Those in attendance were:  Wanda Ballew, Patti Bender, Marlene Hunter, Nileta Lerza, Fred McFarland, Marlene Miller, Margaret Phipps, Annette Reiswig, Marsha Sanger, Shirley Savig, Mavis Seibel, Sharon Tanaka, Kathy Welsh, Janet Woehl and Janice Woehl.

Emails of regret, but tell everyone hello, or classmates letting me know that they received/responded to my e-mail, came from: Kathleen Banegas, Bill Belforte, Betteanne Bettger, Judy Bouska, Sharon Christopherson, Dianne Cooper, Katy Daugherty, Carolyn DeVinny, Faye Doty, Starla Filler, Cherie Flower, Claire Fujita, Bob Fuller, Linda Hatterle for Roland, Karen Krause, Joyce Leventini, Sandy Lind, Marcie Lowe, Carolyn Marshall, Georgia Maul, Marilyn Ostermann, Jeanne Reimche, Pat Sanguinetti, Maxine Schaffer, Bob Schenone, Donna Schumacher, Karen Sterling, Mike Sullivan, Madeline Terrell, Lynette Walther, Lynette Weidner, Dewey Willis and Mike Zeitner.

EVERYONE looked terrific and had a fun time chatting with each other. No bad news to report, as all of our classmates are still with us and hopefully enjoying every moment.

Nileta Lerza joined us as a FIRST TIMER. She looks terrific and caught us up a little on the last “few” years since we’ve seen her. She also gave us KEY information to solve the meaning behind the “Stuck in Lodi” story.

Bob Schenone sent me the following story: In a message dated 4/17/2016 2:07:47 P.M

Marsha, I enjoy the photos and tibits from the "Girls" lunches.  The "Guys" get-togethers have kinda stalled.  The other day I was reminded of something that might be a topic of discussion when no one has anything else to say.

In the early 1960's, Larry Solari, Bill Probst, Dave Mettler (Lodi-1961-1962?), and I were members of Pi Kappa Alpha at San Jose State.  Many of the members were from the Bay area and we took a lot of razzing about being from "Lodi."  Out in the sticks!  Where is it?  We had a young member from El Cerrito (Stu Cook) who, along with his high school buddies, would play for our Friday beer busts.  I saw Stu in about 1965 and the band was headed for a tour in Europe.  They went by the name "Golliwogs."  Shortly thereafter, they changed their name to Credance Clearwater Revival (CCR).  As you well know, "Stuck in Lodi" was a big hit.  I suspect there are a lot of theories to the song's origin, but I believe the boys from Lodi a part in the name.

Bob

Thanks, Bob, for this fun story, and I did read it to all who gathered. Nileta was able to give us “the rest of the story”. Back in, I don’t know that detail, Dick Morton, her now husband, worked for Schunke’s Men’s Store, and a fellow employee, Otto Kundert, had a side business of booking bands to perform in Lodi. He accidentally booked two groups to play at the same venue on the same night. Ooops! So, to solve that situation, he decided to let the group who arrived first to get the gig, and it wasn’t CCR, so here they were………”Stuck in Lodi”. Fred McFarland shared that our own Bill Probst was at one time their drummer. Obviously something else intervened in Bill’s life to give up being a drummer for a living. ???

Maxine Schaffer, who now resides in Missouri, will be in Lodi visiting family soon. I plan to join her for dinner on Thursday, May 5, at 5:15 PM at Panera’s. Please know that you’re welcome to join us; the more the merrier.

Our next gathering will be Friday, July 27, 2016, at Haruka Sushi Bar at 550 H Cherokee Lane (K-Mart strip mall).  Please don’t let the word, sushi, scare you away, as they have MANY other choices on their menu. I don’t eat sushi, but have been there many times for very good food.

Also, we will plan to gather for a Classmates Picnic at Lodi Lake on Friday, October 28, 2016, like we did last year. If you plan to attend, just come self-contained, as it’s too much work to try to deal with food options. Please just bring whatever YOU want to eat and a chair to sit in too, if you happen to have one, otherwise, there are cement benches.

Please forgive me if I forgot to mention someone or in someway neglected something. Mea Culpa.

Stay HEALTHY, SAFE, and HAPPY and hope to see at our next gathering. I found this message on a bag of Yogi organic ginger tea that I was enjoying the other day, and it spoke to me, and I hope to you: The purpose of life is to enjoy every moment.
